Welcome To Mýri Forge. Mýri is an old Icelandic word for moor marsh or swamp. Since we live in the middle a a swamp that extends from Myrtle Beach to Jacksonville Florida, its a good name for it.
My Husband Chuck
Chuck runs the forge. He was taught by his grandfather decades ago. But let it just go dormant until one day about 7 years ago was watching a farrier shoe a horse and the blacksmithing bug came back. But he really didn’t get fully involved until about 2 years ago. it would be great if he would make some money at this!
We use various steels for the metal work we do. Knives are made from a variety of steels, but the most common we use are 1080m 1095 and 5160. We do some LIMITED Damascus (Pattern welded) but since we don’t have hydraulic presses nor power hammers the cost to make is pretty high. Now he does do a lot of Canister Damascus. This is where you take high carbon steel powder, nickle powder and some contrasting steel to make a pattern. Labor intensive but much more affordable. Here is one he just completed for a customer in Charleston SC.
